THE STORY
One look from the clubhouse down the first fairway of the Wilson course reminds golfers what a priviledge it is to be a member at Griffith Park Golf Club. In the heart of Los Angeles, yet nestled in the hills of 40,000+ acre Griffith Park (the largest urban parkland in the nation), the Wilson and Harding courses are both beautiful and challenging. They also have an impressive pedigree. The Wilson Course was designed by Scottsman Tom Bendelow (East Lake, Olympia Fields, Medinah). The Harding Course was designed by George C. Thomas (Bel Air, Los Angeles-North, Riviera). Both courses were redesigned by William H. Johnson in 1948, and Thomas J. Barber in 1978.
In 1968, PGA Tour professional Jerry Barber became Head Golf Professional at the Griffith Park golf courses. Jerry's sons Tom and Roger Barber, and thier wonderful staff have continued to make the golfers' experience in the pro shop and practice facilities, and with golf instruction unique among L.A. area public courses.
