Tournament Handicap Adjustments/Pace of Play Announcements
To ensure the integrity, growth and success of the L.A. County Golf Club remains intact for years to come, the Los Angeles County Golf Operations office felt it was necessary to establish a Handicap Committee to represent the LACGC golf club. This Committee which is composed of four current LACGC members will have many duties. One such duty will be to track all subpar LACGC event scores for possible handicap adjustments. These adjustments will occur when a player scores two cumulative rounds of -6 or more under par within their last four LACGC events. Commencement of tracking subpar rounds will begin at the November 09 Santa Anita event. The adjustment will be for one round, and will be applied to your next played event. Below is an example of the chart that will be used to make the handicap adjustments.
Handicap Adjustment Chart:
Two Round Totals
-6, -7 combined scores under par = 1 stroke adjustment
-8, -9 combined scores under par = 2 stroke adjustment
-10, -11 combined scores under par = 3 stroke adjustment
-12, -13 combined scores under par = 4 stroke adjustment
-14, -15 combined scores under par = 5 stroke adjustment
-16, -17 or less combined scores under par = 6 stroke adjustment
The Handicap Committee will also continue to provide educational information and clarification on rules infractions. Additionally, they will be monitoring that all LACGC event rounds are being properly posted.
All policy changes and proposed recommendations from the Handicap Committee will have to first be approved by the Golf Operations office.
Golf is a game well steeped in history and traditions. The spirit of the game which embraces integrity, competition and camaraderie must be upheld by those who play and love this great game. We look forward to seeing you at your next Los Angeles County Golf Club event.

“BUT THE GROUP BEHIND US IS NOT PUSHING US”
Good Day,
As you know, pace of play (slow play) is a major issue facing the game of golf. Unfortunately, the LA County Golf Club is not immune. In order to ensure the integrity, growth and fun that the club offers, this condition must improve. This Sunday we have the largest field in the history of the program. Parks and Recreation staff will be monitoring your position on the golf course. If you are requested to improve your pace of play, please be aware that the reply
“BUT THE GROUP BEHIND US IS NOT PUSHING US” simply is not acceptable. This pervasive attitude makes the condition worse and is not a true indicator of your groups pace of play.
A few tips, you have all heard them before:
- Look to the group in front of you (not behind you) to check your pace of play.
- This means when you are on a Par 4, you should be able to see the group in front of you on the green.
- On a Par 5, you should be able to see the group in front of you in the fairway.
- On a Par 3, you should see the group in front of you on or leaving the green.
Tips to play more efficiently:
· Know the Rules of Golf.
· Plan your next shot while walking to your ball.
· If you are two in a cart, drop one person off at their ball with several clubs, then go get ready to hit your ball.
· Update your score at the next tee box, not at the green.
· Always stage golf bags or carts to an area off the green toward the next tee.
· Help your partners. Watch others hit and watch the ball flight to help find balls quickly.
Remember, your position on the course is one shot behind the group in front of you, not one shot ahead of the group behind you. Thank you for you support and cooperation.
Best regards,
Tim Smith
