Minutes of Altadena Senior Golf Meeting February 5, 2015

Call to order: Steve Hunt at 7:03am

Roll Call: 7:04 am by secretary: Steve Hunt, Jack Jourden, Park Cockerill, Bob Bowdoin, Bob Jimenez, Richard Martin, Paul Swaim, Dave Carlburg, and Rob Norman.

A. Nomination for Treasurer: It was moved, seconded and passed to elect Bob Bowdoin as Treasurer. President is Steve Hunt, Vice President is Jack Jourden, and Secretary is Park Cockerill.

B. Treasurer’s Report by Bob Bowdoin: $3407.37. Bank statement will be reviewed prior to next Board meeting.

C. Gift for former board member Vester Pittman and Joe Dean. Two $25 gift certificates were purchased by Jack Jourden. It was moved, seconded and passed to reimburse Jack Jourden.

D. Names on bank account: Steve Hunt, president; Jack Jourden, vice-president; and treasurer, Bob Bowdoin.

E. New Altadena Seniors Board Organization chart. President Steve Hunt comments: all reports, new and old, will originate in the new committees (see organization chart). The president will contact each committee chair for input to be placed on upcoming board meeting agendas

Main Agenda: Committee Reports

  1. It was moved by Park Cockerill, seconded by Bob Bowdoin, and passed to set up a website with cost not to exceed $250.

  2. Further discussion: Jack J. suggests we inform all members about new website so

members can link up to AltadenaSeniorMensClub.com .

  1. Ball washer replacement. Dave C. says we passed motion last year to replace “stolen #3” and damaged #5 ball washers. Dave C. found damaged ball washer from #5 and thinks we should repair the old one. Dave C. will monitor these issues.

  2. Tournament Committee: Jack J. will set up committee meetings and address scheduling away games in advance. Also set up annual tournament with Eaton Canyon Seniors. Richard Martin added that we only average ten men when we play. Most were scheduled at Azusa Greens and Alhambra Golf Course. We must get word out on away tournaments to all members at least 2 months in advance to be played on a Tuesday and Wednesday. We hope members can then put aside dates and have more participation.

  3. Membership Committee: Paul Swaim: We have two new members: Richard Urban and Ray Fisher.

  4. Entertainment Committee: Dave Carlburg, Robert Bowdoin, Andy Pollard, and Jack Jourden met at end of January. They will put together spring luncheon (March or April). We are looking for home to stage a summer luncheon as well. Richard Martin will not host the July luncheon at his house.

  5. Handicap Committee:

  6. Board Meeting: Steve Hunt says next board meeting: Thursday, March 5th @ 7:00 am.

  7. Special Comment: Park C. suggested we give special remarks about the passing of Charlie Sifford who broke the infamous rules of the PGA and became first black to be given PGA card which he put to good use winning the LA Open and the Hartford Open. These comments were given Thursday morning, February 5th on the first tee to the Senior Men assembled there.

Call to Order: Steve Hunt at 7:00

Roll Call by P. Cockerill: Steve Hunt, Jack Jourden, Bob Jiminez, Bob Bowdoin, Richard Martin, David Carlburg, Don Slater

Minutes of March 5, 2015 approved

Main Agenda:

  1. Treasurer’s Report:

Deposit: Membership fees – $65, open new account

Account – $100; February Tourney income: $56

Expenses: $421.30 – Balance as of March 31, 2015: $3,315.77

Motion for treasurer’s report approved. All in favor.

 

  1. Rules: Park Cockerill

  1. Putt out into cup (no give-me’s)

  2. Play where ball lies (no 6” rule)

  3. Local rule on lost ball. “Drop closest to exit – penalty one stroke.”

  4. For club championship, each player has to have played certain number of tourneys in that year prior to championship.

 

  1. Tournament Committee: Jack Jourden

  1. A meeting is planned with Eaton Canyon to have a home and away tournaments.

  2. Putting Contest: Big success with 3 winners.

  3. In the future we plan to play away tourneys at Santa Anita, Brookside, and Alhambra. This month we plan to play on Tuesday, April 21st at Alhambra.

  1. Membership Committee: Don Slater. He showed the board an 81/2”x11” promo sheet to attract new members. This and applications for our club will be in the pro shop.

  2. Entertainment Committee: Dave Carlburg

  1. Birthday luncheon did not work well because all the B-day boys were absent.

  2. After our next Thursday tournament, which is the first day of the Masters, we will have a party in café. Dave will buy the first round of drinks, and Steve Hunt will buy the second round.

 

  1. Handicaps: no news
