2020 Policies and Procedures for Handicapping
Last Updated: 01/08/20
The Handicap Committee of the VVMGC is responsible for all aspects of the USGA Handicap System, including the computation of each member’s Handicap Index and verifies that all acceptable scores are reported for handicap purposes. All recorded scores will be made readily available for peer review and random scorecard audits will be performed.

Committee members, including the chair, are members in good standing of the Vista Valencia Men’s Golf Club.

The Handicap Committee has set forth the following policies and procedures for all members consistent with those established by the USGA Handicap System.

1. Each player will try to make the best score at every hole in every round, regardless of where the round is played, and that the player will post every acceptable round, including 9 hole scores, for peer review.

2. All scores must be posted same day as play.

Acceptable scores must be posted SAME DAY of the round played using one of the following TWO (2) methods:
  1. Mobile Devices: Download the latest version on the GHIN Mobile App and post from your phone
  2. Online:  Visit scga.org or ghin.com to easily post scores online

Disciplinary actions for failure to post a score, or a player manipulating his Handicap Index
  • First failure to post or potential manipulation of a score will result in a verbal warning
  • Second failure will result in a written warning and/or a penalty score being posted
  • Continued failure will result in disciplinary action being taken by the Handicap Committee pursuant to the procedures specified by the USGA’s Handicap System
A player must earn a Handicap Index. No player has an inherent right to a Handicap Index without providing full evidence of ability to the VVMGC’s Handicap Committee. The Handicap Committee has the ultimate authority and obligation to adjust a members Handicap Index or tournament course handicap as it deems necessary and appropriate in the interest of fair play.
